A Space Walk

We went to a space museum while on vacation one year. The IMAX theater had a feature about walking in space. It was as if I were there instead of the astronaut. It was I, held only by a thread, who looked out into the blackness knowing that if that tether were to break, and I stepped across that threshold there would be nothing to grasp on to, nothing to stand on, and no way to return. It was an awful feeling!
I think of death in the same way. We are bound to this life by only a thread. Our souls are tied to our bodies by such a fragile thread. Once that thread is dissolved, and we step across the threshold of eternity, what will we face? If we are believers we step out into the arms of God. An unbeliever will step out into outer darkness and the flames of Hell. He can never, ever come back once he crosses that threshold.
Why would anyone go for a space walk unprepared? Would an astronaut step out into space with out his protective gear and his tether, his life line? Are you prepared to step out into eternity? If there is any doubt, please pray and invite the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart today. Then you will be ready when it comes your turn to depart this world.
Scriptures to ponder:
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Deuteronomy 33:27a The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.
Matt 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Rev 20:14-15 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
